Dundee now expecting an offer from Celtic for midfielder Luke McCowan

Celtic Park

Celtic are now eyeing a shock move for Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan, with Dens chiefs expecting an offer from the Hoops for their captain, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Scottish Premiership giants remain in the market for a left-back, striker and centre-back, but they also want to bolster their options in the middle of the park.

Celtic view McCowan as a player capable of adding quality depth to their squad as they juggle their European and domestic commitments this term, but they will need to offer Dundee a good bid to land him.

Hibernian have had a £750,000 bid knocked out for the 26-year-old who has bagged three goals and four assists in six appearances so far in 2024-25.

The Scottish midfielder notched ten goals and five assists in 41 games last term and returned very identical numbers (ten goals and six assists in 40 games) in 2022-23.

While the Celtic target is in the final 12 months of his contract, Dundee want £1m for his services and suitors may have to part with that amount to land McCowan.

Ex-Hibs star Marvin Bartley has dubbed the midfielder a ‘game-winner’, and manager Brendan Rodgers could do with such an influential player at Parkhead.

Celtic have snapped up Viljami Sinisalo, Kasper Schmeichel, Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah so far this summer in permanent deals but are keen to do more as Rodgers looks to impress in the Champions League and win the domestic treble.

They will fancy their chances of landing a fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title but they need to strengthen their squad depth across all departments to boost their chances.
