Aston Villa midfielder Enzo Barrenechea is set to join Valencia on loan before Friday’s deadline.
The Argentine midfielder joined Villa Park in the summer transfer window as a part of the deal that saw Douglas Luiz move to Juventus.
Unai Emery has already allowed Lewis Dobbin and Samuel Iling Jr to go out on loan, and he is ready to allow Barrenechea to leave Villa Park as well.
Villa have added depth to their midfield this summer, especially with the signing of Amadou Onana from Everton.
Barrenechea has yet to play a game for Villa in the Premier League, and it seems he will seal a temporary exit.
Romano wrote on X: “Enzo Barrenechea, set to join Valencia on loan deal from Aston Villa with salary covered. Almost done.”
The fact that Villa didn’t hesitate to let three summer signings leave on loan only indicates that the club agreed to those deals mainly to avoid PSR threats.
These players do not feature in Emery’s immediate plans, and they will have to prove elsewhere on loan.
This has been a massive transfer window for Villa, with the club making some big money signings. Onana has joined on a club-record deal, while the club paid substantial transfer fees to sign left-back Ian Maatsen, centre-forward Cameron Archer, and left-winger Jaden Philogen.
It has been suggested that Villa could still be looking to add another defender to their ranks. Matty Cash has picked up a hamstring injury and the full-back is set to miss action for over a month.
According to a recent report from Express and Star, Villa are looking to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida before Friday’s transfer deadline.
The 24-year-old right-back has been on Villa’s radar throughout the summer and the club want to bring him to Villa Park in the next 72 hours.
