FC Twente want Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke on loan

Eredivisie club FC Twente could launch a late bid to sign Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke on a season-long loan in the last week of the summer transfer window, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Sweden international centre-back is not in the plans of Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers this term after he made just ten appearances across all competitions last term following a £3 million move from Elfsborg, and Celtic are ready to let him leave.

Serie A club Lecce tabled a loan offer with an option to buy Lagerbielke last week, while Heerenveen have been in advanced talks to sign him on loan.

However, their Dutch top-flight counterparts Twente are looking to pip them to his services after identifying him as a potential replacement for Robin Propper.

The 30-year-old Dutchman joined Rangers earlier this summer, and his former club want to bring the Celtic man in to fill the void he left.

The choice of where to move next is Lagerbielke to make in the coming days, and more clubs could join the aforementioned trio in the race for the Swede after Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers made it clear he is not in his plans.

Celtic have enough depth at the back and will look to recruit elsewhere in the coming days.

Denmark international midfielder Matt O’Riley is on his way to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion, while Japanese international striker Kyogo has been linked with a move to Manchester City.

Rodgers could be forced to enter the market for another attacker should the Hoops forward follow O’Riley out, and the Celtic manager will be desperate to get a squad capable of challenging in Europe while maintaining their domestic dominance.
