Ipswich Town in talks to sign Dara O’Shea

Ipswich Town are in talks to sign Burnley centre-back Dara O’Shea.

This has been an excellent transfer window so far for the newly promoted side. The Tractor Boys have signed as many as nine new players this summer, but Kieran McKenna is looking to add another player before the end of the window.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Ipswich have monitored him throughout the summer, and now they want to bring him to Portman Road before the end of the window.

Premier League rivals Wolves were also interested in signing him. The Telegraph reported on 19 August that Gary O’Neil is prioritising a new centre-back, and he has earmarked O’Shea as a potential next signing.

However, one source has told Sky Sports that Wolves are not out of the race yet. However, they probably need to act quickly to get him on board.

O’Shea has also been targeted by Brentford, but they have no interest in signing him after they captured Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool.

The Republic of Ireland defender joined Burnley last summer for a fee of around £7 million and signed a new four-year deal.

Ipswich have already added a new centre-back this summer, Jacob Greaves, who joined from Hull City in the summer transfer window.

O’Shea made over 105 appearances for West Bromwich Albion and scored seven goals. For Burnley, he has managed five goals in 39 games.

The centre-back has a contract at the Turf Moor until 2027, and Burnley probably would demand a high transfer fee for him. He can also play as a right-back if needed and would be a valuable signing for the club.

Ipswich have bolstered their full-back areas by signing Conor Townsend and Ben Johnson. They have also added defensive midfielders Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste.

After losing their opening match against Liverpool 2-0, Ipswich face another tough game this weekend, when they travel to Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City.
