Manchester United began their 2024-25 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Friday.
It wasn’t a comfortable win for Erik ten Hag’s side as the visitors made them work hard for the result.
United created several goalscoring opportunities but were denied three times by superb saves from goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Newcomer Joshua Zirkzee ultimately saved the day for his side by coming off the bench to score an 87th-minute winner.
Zirkzee grabbed all the headlines but Kobbie Mainoo also impressed with a solid display for the Red Devils.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher heaped priase on the 19-year-old live on Sky Sports, saying he has been an ‘absolute revelation’.
He said: “I think he has been an absolute revelation. I love watching him play and what he did in the summer”.
“He came through last season, we were asking questions about United’s midfield. It was Casemiro needs a partner, now it’s Mainoo needs a partner. I think he is going to be a superstar”.
It is hard to believe that Mainoo has just turned 19 as he has been playing with a maturity beyond his years.
On Friday, he was on the pitch for 84 minutes and completed 90 percent of his passes.
The talented midfielder made five interceptions, three tackles and six ball recoveries in the game. He also had 66 touches and won 55 percent of his ground duels.
Mainoo was a key member of Erik ten Hag’s team last season, featuring in 35 appearances across all competitions and bagging five goals. He also scored in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May.
The 19-year-old’s latest display shows he is in peak form and is expected to play a huge role for United in 2024-25.
