Liverpool reach agreement for Federico Chiesa

Arsenal have inquired about a possible move for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa

Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Juventus midfielder Federico Chiesa.

According to Paul Joyce, there is growing confidence that Liverpool will pay £10.9 million to sign the 26-year-old midfielder.

The player is on standby to fly to Merseyside today if an agreement can be reached formally.

However, Fabrizio Romano has come up with the latest update. The Italian journalist says that the player will travel to Merseyside today, and that a deal has been agreed.

Chiesa, who has been frozen out by Thiago Motta, has accepted the offer from Liverpool immediately.

Romano wrote on X: “Breaking: Federico Chiesa to Liverpool, here we go! Agreement done for €13m initial fee with add-ons.

“Four year contract for Chiesa as new Liverpool player, set to fly later today. Chiesa accepted Liverpool immediately. Deal DONE. Exclusive story confirmed.”

In a separate tweet, Romano further adds that Chiesa will be in Liverpool on Wednesday (28 August) to complete his medical.

He will become the second major signing of Arne Slot after the Reds confirmed the capture of Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will stay in Valencia for the rest of the season on loan and join Liverpool next summer.

Chiesa, on the other hand, will be a part of the main team. The Italy international sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in 2022.

However, he has looked in great shape in the past 12 months and featured regularly last season after his injury problems. He was also a part of the Italy squad for the Euro 2024 Championships.

He scored ten goals and provided three assists in 37 games for Juventus last season, and he could be a tremendous signing for Liverpool if he stays injury-free.

Liverpool have a wealth of attacking options. Slot has Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez with him, and Chiesa will make the Reds even stronger.
