Liverpool are on the brink of securing a deal to sign highly-rated goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from La Liga side Valencia, according to The Athletic.
The Reds have been tracking the 23-year-old Georgian international for some time, with his impressive performances for his country at the recent European Championships only serving to heighten their interest.
The Athletic reports that Liverpool and Valencia are discussing a fee in the region of £34 million for the talented shot-stopper.
However, as part of the deal, Mamardashvili will remain at the Mestalla Stadium for the 2024/25 season before officially making the switch to Anfield next summer.
Liverpool’s goalkeeping plans have been for Mamardashvili to join the club in 2025, with the Georgian viewed as a long-term successor to Alisson.
Alisson remains the undisputed number one at the club and has three years remaining on his contract. The Brazilian has been a standout performer since his arrival from AS Roma and is not under threat.
However, clubs in Saudi Arabia have been showing interest in the Brazilian international, and there’s a feeling that he could move to the Middle East in the near future.
Meanwhile, the future of Alisson’s understudy, Caoimhin Kelleher, is less certain.
The Republic of Ireland international has impressed when called upon but is keen to establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper.
With his contract expiring in 2026, Kelleher could be on the move in the near future, with a valuation of around £25m.
Several European clubs, including Newcastle United, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan, have previously been credited with an interest in Mamardashvili.
Mamardashvili kept 13 clean sheets in 37 La Liga games last season.
He made 30 saves in four matches — the second-most in a single edition of the Euros — as Georgia were knocked out by Spain at the last-16.
Valencia have already prepared for his eventual departure by securing the signature of North Macedonian goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski on a free transfer from Rayo Vallecano earlier this summer.
