Liverpool are set to make a signing despite the summer transfer window closing on August 30.
They looked very close to signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi but the midfielder eventually decided to stay at his boyhood club.
The Reds are currently in the market for a goalkeeper and could hijack Arsenal’s move for Joan Garcia.
This is according to Mundo Deportivo who report Liverpool are following the 23-year-old closely.
The Gunners could lose Aaron Ramsdale to Wolverhampton Wanderers who have submitted a proposal to sign the England international.
Mikel Areteta’s side want Garcia to replace Ramsdale if he ends up leaving, and they are said to have already agreed terms with the Spaniard.
But Liverpool could complicate their move for the 23-year-old, who has a contract with Espanyol until 2028.
Arne Slot’s side already have Alisson Becker as their number one goalkeeper but they are keen to add another this summer.
They are said to be closing in on Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili. If the Reds complete a move for the 23-year-old, then they will likely not pursue Garcia.
Mamardashvili was one of the most important players for Georgia at the European Championship. He started all four matches for the national team as they made it to the last 16 of the tournament.
The young goalie also featured in 37 La Liga matches for Valencia last term as they finished ninth in the standings.
