Liverpool are exploring a deal to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer window.
The Reds have yet to sign a single player this summer, and recently missed out on signing Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
At the moment, Liverpool are well-stocked in their goalkeeping areas. Alisson remains the club’s first-choice keeper, while Caoimhin Kelleher has impressed as his backup option, especially last season when he filled in for the injured Brazilian.
However, Alisson has been the subject of interest from Saudi clubs, while Kelleher has often expressed his desire to play regularly to further his development and career.
Liverpool rate the Republic of Ireland international highly and would demand a fee of around £25 million.
Michael Edwards is possibly thinking ahead, and that’s why the Reds are keen to secure a deal for the Valencia goalkeeper, who was a “standout performer” for Georgia in the Euro 2024 Championships.
According to a report from The Athletic, Valencia value the 23-year-old at around £38.6 million. He has a contract at Mestalla until 2027 and has a £85 million release clause.
Obviously, Liverpool will not pay his release clause, but they will probably look to match Valencia’s valuation of the player.
Even if Liverpool agree a deal for the goalkeeper, he is not expected to arrive until 2025. It means that the Reds will probably allow him to continue at the Spanish club for one more season on loan before taking him to Anfield next summer.
Earlier this summer, Newcastle United showed interest in signing the Valencia goalkeeper, but they couldn’t reach an agreement.
He made 13 clean sheets in 37 La Liga last season and is likely to feature in Valencia’s opening game against Barcelona in the La Liga opener this weekend.
At the moment, it is not clear who Liverpool are planning to let go between Alisson and Kelleher. If they receive a good offer for Alisson, 32, from the Saudi Pro League club, the Reds could be tempted to do business.
At the same time, Kelleher may not be willing to stay for another season if he doesn’t get regular games under Arne Slot.
