Liverpool have made a strong start to their new campaign after winning two games in a row in the Premier League.
The Reds earned a 2-0 win over Brentford at Anfield on Sunday (25 August), as Arne Slot’s side kept two clean sheets from their opening two games.
While the Dutchman says that he is happy to have inherited a strong squad left by Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool are open to adding a few players if it is required.
The last few days could be really interesting but it looks like the Reds will first look to complete the deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Los Che goalkeeper, and an “agreement is done”, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer guru has suggested that Liverpool are still negotiating the deal structure for the 23-year-old shot-stopper.
Liverpool will pay a fee in the region of £30 million plus sell-on clause to sign the goalkeeper, who will stay at the La Liga club for the rest of the season.
The Reds are expected to discuss the details of the deal in “one more meeting” with Valencia.
Romano wrote on X: “Liverpool are pushing to seal Giorgi Mamardashvili deal with new contacts with Valencia already scheduled.
“One more meeting will take place as agreement is done on €35m fee plus sell-on clause, still negotiating on deal structure. Giorgi would stay at Valencia on loan.”
While there is no doubt that Mamardashvili would be a brilliant signing for the club, what remains to be seen here is who will make way for him.
Alisson has been the first-choice goalkeeper at the club all these years, and he has a contract until 2027. He has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League clubs, but the Brazilian has recently made it clear that he wants to stay at the club.
In all probability, Liverpool will offload Caoimhin Kelleher. The 25-year-old goalkeeper is at the stage of his career where he needs to start regularly. There will be no shortage of suitors for him, and the Reds can sell him at a high price, something the Reds have done efficiently under Michael Edwards.
