Liverpool are set to announce their first signing of the summer transfer window, with Giorgi Mamardashvili undergoing medicals at Anfield.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have agreed a deal to sign the Georgian shot-stopper from Valencia, and an announcement is expected in the coming days.
Liverpool have agreed to pay a total of £30 million to sign the Valencia keeper. They will pay an initial £25.3m plus £4.2m in add-ons, with the Spanish club retaining a 10% sell-on clause.
Mamardashvili is currently undergoing medicals before signing a long-term contract with the Merseyside giants.
He is set to pledge his allegiance to the club for the foreseeable future, signing a six-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2030.
Mamardashvili is seen as a long-term successor to Alisson, although the Brazilian’s immediate future at the club is not thought to be under threat.
The 31-year-old has three years left on his contract, and Liverpool have no plans to part ways with him anytime soon despite interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
However, the future of Alisson’s understudy, Caoimhin Kelleher, is less certain.
The Republic of Ireland international has impressed when called upon but is keen to establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper.
With his contract expiring in 2026, Kelleher could be on the move in the near future, with a valuation of around £25m.
Mamardashvili will sign for Liverpool this summer but will return to Valencia on loan for the rest of the season.
He will join Liverpool next summer but will likely start his Liverpool career as Alisson’s understudy, with Kelleher expected to leave the club soon.
Liverpool have made an assured start to the 2024/25 season, securing a couple of 2-0 victories over Ipswich Town and Brentford.
They sit fourth on the Premier League rankings and are one of only four teams to maintain a perfect start to the season after two games.
