Liverpool have yet to sign a single player this summer but they are working on a deal to secure at least one signing before the end of the transfer window.
The Reds were heavily linked with a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but the midfielder opted to stay at his boyhood club instead.
While Liverpool are unlikely to sign a new midfielder, the Reds are eyeing to land a new goalkeeper instead.
Fabrizio Romano claimed on X on 12 August that Liverpool are seriously considering the opportunity to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for a fee in excess of £25.6 million.
The Reds will send the player on loan for the rest of the season. The Georgian goalkeeper is keen on moving to Anfield this summer.
The transfer guru has added another update on the 23-year-old goalkeeper. He says that Liverpool will hold “one more meeting” with Valencia to discuss the deal for the goalkeeper.
He wrote on X (13 August): “One more meeting has already been scheduled for Liverpool to discuss Giorgi Mamardashvili deal with Valencia. Up to the Reds as he’d be loaned out and Georgian GK is keen on this solution.”
James Pearce, however, shared on The Athletic that while the Reds are monitoring the situation of the Valencia goalkeeper, they are not looking to recruit a goalkeeper in this window.
The situation could change next summer, and that is where Mamardashvili fits in. Alisson has been sensational for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp over the years, but Liverpool could be willing to offload him if they receive a good offer from Saudi Pro League clubs.
Likewise, Caoimhin Kelleher, has done incredibly well as a back-up goalkeeper for Allison, but he wants to play regularly. A host of clubs have shown interest in him, and the Reds could sell him as well if the offer is right.
