It has been a quiet summer transfer window at Newcastle United given the amount of money they have spent on big-name players in previous seasons.
They have already confirmed the arrivals of Lewis Hall, William Osula, Lloyd Kelly, Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy but reinforcements in defence are still needed.
According to a report from Aslinda, Eddie Howe’s side have made contact to sign Jayden Oosterwolde from Fenerbahce.
It is said the Premier League outfit want to officially start negotiations for the 23-year-old.
Fenerbahce reportedly want around £21.3 million for their ‘important player’ who has a contract with the club until 2027.
Another player Ferdi Kadıoğlu has been heavily linked with Brighton & Hove Albion, and if the 24-year-old leaves, manager Jose Mourinho may not be willing to sanction Oosterwolde’s departure as well.
Newcastle are in the market for a quality central defender and they have been chasing a deal to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
But their fourth bid worth up to £65 million was turned down by Palace who are said to be demanding a fee in excess of £70m.
Guehi has recently seen a huge increase in his stocks after he starred for England at the European Championship. He started six matches for the Three Lions as they lost the final to Spain at the Olympiastadion Berlin last month.
The England international would be an excellent acquisition for Eddie Howe’s side but it looks the Eagles are not interested in selling him.
Therefore, it appears they are looking at alternatives like Oosterwolde, who has impressed with his performances in the Turkish Super Lig.
