Newcastle United want Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga

Newcastle United are eyeing a possible summer transfer deadline day move for Nottingham Forest attacker Anthony Elanga in a big-money move, according to talkSPORT transfer expert and journalist Alex Crook.

Magpies manager Eddie Howe wants to bolster his attacking ranks and the Sweden international has emerged as a late option ahead of the 11 pm deadline tonight.

Newcastle missed out on the top-four and European football entirely last term and are desperate to improve their fortunes on the pitch this term.

The Toons have brought in Lewis Hall permanently and added Odysseas Vlachodimos, Lloyd Kelly, John Ruddy and William Osula to their ranks, but they want to get more business done and will look to snap up Elanga.

Once described as a ‘great talent’ by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the 22-year-old left Manchester United for Forest last summer, grabbing five goals and nine assists in 36 Premier League appearances in 2023-24, and he has what it takes to make Newcastle better in the final third.

Paraguayan attacker Miguel Almiron could leave the Magpies today amid links to Fulham, and the club are ready to bring in a replacement instantly.

However, Forest are unlikely to be keen on losing such a key player at this stage of the transfer window, and Newcastle have a very slim chance of getting Elanga.

Getting in a quality replacement for him even if the Magpies offer them top dollar could be very tricky given the little time left in the window, and it will be interesting to see how things go in the coming hours.

Elanga can play across the forward positions and behind the striker, and Newcastle could indeed do with his services and quality, but they might have left it too little too late in their bid to get him.
