Nottingham Forest submit improved £28m bid for Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez

Nottingham Forest have been looking to add a new striker before the transfer window closes on August 30.

The Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi is injury-prone while Chris Wood has reached the age of 32.

The Tricky Trees remained heavily linked with a move for Arsenal centre-forward Eddie Nketiah. They reportedly agreed a £30 million deal with the Gunners over a transfer but couldn’t finalise personal terms with the England international.

It appears they have now switched their attention to Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez. According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Forest have submitted a £28 million bid to seal a transfer for the 23-year-old.

The player is understood to be keen on the move and so everything now depends on the two clubs.

If a deal is finalised, it would be a club-record sale for the Rotterdam-based side.

Gimenez began his career with Mexican outfit Cruz Azul before joining Feyenoord in the summer of 2022.

He hit the ground running at the Stadion Feijenoord, scoring 53 and assisting 13 goals in 90 appearances across all competitions.

The 23-year-old played a pivotal role in helping his team win the Eredivisie title in 2022-23.

Gimenez is very young and has proven himself in the Netherlands. He boasts an excellent goalscoring record and could be a success in the Premier League.

Forest struggled to score goals last season and finished just six points above the relegation zone. They must add a quality goalscorer to do well in the English top-flight this campaign.
