Rangers star Todd Cantwell wants summer exit, made to train alone after handing in transfer request

Rangers attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell is currently training away from the rest of the first-team after handing in a transfer request, according to the Scottish Sun.

Gers manager Philippe Clement confirmed last month that the 26-year-old had requested to leave the Ibrox club this summer, and he sent him to train with the B team, blocking him from participating in the pre-season friendly against Manchester United at Murrayfield.

Cantwell was not involved in action when Rangers drew 0-0 in their opening game of the 2024-25 Scottish Premiership campaign against Hearts last weekend, and he will not be featuring against Motherwell at Hampden Park later today having missed the Champions League qualifiers against Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday.

The former Norwich City star has now been spotted training away from his teammates as his departure is almost guaranteed, with the Scottish Sun sharing exclusive pictures on their website of him casting a longing glance across the training ground while heading for his own session alone.

The other Rangers stars were going through shaping and practice ahead of the clash against Motherwell today, and Cantwell will be looking forward to sealing an exit in the coming days.

Cardiff City and Trabzonspor have both been linked with the winger, while he has also been offered to Lecce.

Cantwell joined Rangers in January 2023 from Norwich and has bagged 14 goals and 12 assists in 64 appearances, helping them win the Scottish League Cup last term.

He signed a long-term deal when he joined and the Light Blues will hope to get something off his sale and further bolster their attacking ranks before the summer transfer window shuts.

Rangers are desperate to stop Celtic from making it a fourth consecutive Premiership title this term, but they have not done enough this window and fans will hope more quality recruitment is made in the coming days.
