Southampton have enjoyed a busy summer transfer window and they are still looking to add a few more players.
Despite signing over ten new players this summer, the Saints feel they need to bolster several other areas as they look to stay in the Premier League.
Southampton have been trying to sign a new goalkeeper this month, as they want a quality shot-stopper who can provide competition for Alex McCarthy.
They have been heavily linked with a move for Dutch goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, but the deal didn’t materialise in the end after medical issues.
The Saints have now turned their attention towards signing Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale who has dropped down the pecking order behind David Raya.
Wolves were leading the race to sign the 26-year-old keeper, but the deal didn’t materialise. It has opened the door for Southampton to bring the experienced England goalkeeper to St Mary’s.
Southampton had one loan bid rejected early in the summer. As per the Guardian, the Saints will be looking to get him on loan with an obligation to buy him permanently.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Saints are negotiating a deal to sign Ramsdale and talks are advancing well.
The transfer guru says that an agreement could be reached soon between the two clubs, and all parties are hopeful. Arsenal have back up plans ready in case Ramsdale leaves.
The Gunners have agreed on terms with Joan Garcia from Espanyol, and he is likely to join if Ramsdale moves to Southampton.
Romano wrote on X: “Understand Southampton and Arsenal are advancing well in talks for Aaron Ramsdale deal! Negotiations underway, it could get done soon. All parties optimistic.
“Reminder: Arsenal have agreed on terms with Joan García from Espanyol if Ramsdale leaves.”
Ramsdale joined the Gunners from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021. He has made 89 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.
Southampton are also looking to bolster their forward areas and have had a bid rejected for Tom Fellows.
