Southampton in hunt to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo

Southampton have been busy in the summer transfer window and they are looking to add a few more players before the 30 August deadline.

According to journalist Chris Wheatley, Southampton are monitoring Gent forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

The 19-year-old is a “highly-rated” young winger, and he could be set for a summer exit from Gent.

The Saints, however, could face competition from Liverpool and Leicester City to sign the Belgium forward.

Wheatley wrote on X: “Liverpool, Leicester, and Southampton are monitoring highly-rated 19-year-old Gent forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

“Represented solely by his father, the youngster could be set for a summer exit ahead of the 30 August deadline.”

Southampton are also reportedly close to signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Mateus Fernandes. He is set to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours.

The Saints have bolstered their squad this summer, and it remains to be seen whether they make any concrete attempt to sign Fernandez-Pardo.

Upon returning to the Premier League, Southampton have been one of the busiest clubs this summer, as they secured as many as 11 new signings.

It has been a hectic transfer window for Russell Martin, with the club adding players like Flynn Downes, Ben Brereton Diaz, Cameron Archer, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Charlie Taylor, among others.

Who else Southampton could sign?

The youngster made five appearances in the Jupiler Pro League last season, scoring one goal. This season he has scored one goal for the senior side already.

He has a contract at the club until 2026 and Genk would be looking to get a decent transfer fee for him. Of the three clubs, Liverpool could be an attractive destination for the youngster, but Southampton have always shown great commitment towards nurturing young talents.

Southampton could look to sign a new striker before the end of the month, and they have been linked with a move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja.
