Southampton keen to sign Justin Bijlow

Southampton are looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

The Saints have been very busy in the summer window and have signed as many as 11 new players since returning to the Premier League.

However, they still need to sign a solid goalkeeper who can provide competition for Alex McCarthy’s number-one spot.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Southampton are in talks to sign Dutch goalkeeper Justin Bijlow.

The transfer guru says that the 26-year-old Feyenoord goalkeeper is high on Southampton’s transfer list, and the player is keen on a move.

The Saints are negotiating a deal today, and there is a possibility that Southampton can broker a deal.

Romano wrote on X: “Southampton are in talks to sign Feyenoord GK Justin Bijlow, as negotiations are taking place today.

“Bijlow, keen on the move as 1908nl reported. He’s high on Saints list as new goalkeeper”

Polish goalkeeper Mat Lis is expected to return to Sport Republic sister club Goztepe, and this could open the door for another goalkeeper at St Mary’s.

He made 17 league appearances during the 2023/24 season as Feyenoord finished second in the Eredivisie behind PSV Eindhoven.

Earlier this summer, Liverpool had shown interest in signing the Dutch keeper, and several Reds scouts watched him heavily.

He was the first-choice keeper at Feyenoord under current Reds head coach, Arne Slot. In total, he has made 143 appearances for the Eredivisie outfit, conceding 151 times and keeping 54 clean sheets.

He suffered two separate injuries last season, but it seems the Saints feel that he could be a great addition to the club.

Bijlow has earned eight caps for his country, and Southampton are working on a deal to get him on board. The Saints are also interested in signing Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Southampton are also looking to bolster their forward department and have been linked with a move for in-demand Gent forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
