West Ham have done some incredible business this summer but they are looking to add more players to their ranks before the end of the window.
The Hammers have signed as many as five players already, but there could be more additions.
This week, West Ham completed the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug, while Argentine midfielder Guido Rodriguez has joined on a free transfer.
West Ham still need to sign a top-quality right-back this summer and possibly another central defender to add more depth to the side.
They conceded 74 goals in the Premier League last season, and Julen Lopetegui needs to pay serious attention to this area.
The Hammers have paid a high transfer fee to sign Max Kilman from Wolves in the early part of the summer window, but it seems Lopetegui is still looking to add another experienced defender.
Kurt Zouma has struggled with fitness problems last season, and there are suggestions that he could be sold. Likewise, Nayef Aguerd is also facing an uncertain future.
West Ham could move for experienced German defender
According to Florian Plettenberg, West Ham could make a move for German defender Mats Hummels.
The 35-year-old defender left Borrusia Dortmund for free under acrimonious circumstances after falling out with former boss Edin Terzic.
Brighton are willing to take chances on the World-Cup winning defender while West Ham could make a late push for the 78-time capped German superstar.
The Sky Germany reporter says that Hummels is on West Ham’s list and a late move from the Hammers is not excluded. It is also possible that Hummels, who is arguably “one of the best” defenders in the Bundesliga, could call an end to his career.
While Hummels is approaching the fag end of his career, he can still be a valuable weapon for West Ham, especially on a free transfer.
He is a world-class defender and was exceptional last season for Dortmund. However, it remains to be seen whether Hummels at all wants to continue playing football, and if he does, West Ham could fancy their chances.
