West Ham are still in talks to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug in the summer transfer window.
The Hammers have submitted a fresh offer in the region of £21 million for the 31-year-old striker but Dortmund have yet to respond to the bid.
According to Florian Plettenberg, West Ham have been involved in “new talks” with the German giants last night (1 August) to reach an agreement.
The Hammers are not willing to overspend and they have made it clear that this is the maximum limit they can spend on the German striker.
Dortmund only signed him last summer, and Fullkrug impressed in the first season at the club scoring 15 goals in all competitions.
The German giants are demanding a fee in the region of £25 million, but the Hammers are reluctant to increase their offer.
Plettenberg wrote on X: “New talks between the clubs have taken place tonight with Borussia Dortmund still demanding €30m all-in for Niclas Füllkrug!
“West Ham, not willing to increase their offer of €25m all-in now. Poker ongoing but West Ham exploring more options.
“Most concrete: Jhon Duran! Verbal agreement with the 20 y/o striker is done. Aston Villa demand €30m all-in. It’s still up to Dortmund as finalizing the Duran deal won’t be an issue.”
West Ham should not look to overspend
Reaching an agreement between the two clubs seems to be the major stumbling block here. Fullkrug is willing to move to the Premier League, and reaching personal terms won’t be an issue at all.
The striker scored 122 goals for multiple clubs in his career. He has also scored 13 goals for Germany and has never played outside the Bundesliga.
While he is still enjoying a fantastic goalscoring form, West Ham should not look to overspend. They have already submitted a very good offer, and Dortmund should accept it.
If they are still determined to stick with their asking price, West Ham should consider other options.
