West Ham have shown ambition in the summer transfer window and they are close to sealing their eighth signing.
The Hammers are one of the Premier League’s big spenders, and the board has backed new manager Julen Lopetegui properly in the summer window.
They have signed a new goalkeeper, a new central midfielder, a couple of attacking midfielders, and two top-quality centre-backs and are close to completing the signing of a new right-back.
West Ham are close to announcing the signing of Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as all documents are in place and medical has gone through.
Could they be looking to bring in more players? There is always a possibility.
West Ham pushing to sign Sergi Roberto
According to a report from Sport (print edition, 12 August, page 7), Lopetegui wants to sign Sergi Roberto who has bid farewell to Barcelona.
Roberto will leave Barcelona as a free agent. He has been at the Catalan club since childhood and progressed through the academy ranks.
The midfielder, who can also play as a full-back, has made 373 senior appearances for the Blaugrana and scored 19 goals. In his illustrious career, he has won seven league titles and two Champions League trophies with the Catalan giants.
Sport claims that La Liga club Sevilla is keen to sign him. Several Italian clubs are interested, and he is admired by Dutch giants Ajax. West Ham is also in the mix, and Roberto has previously played under Lopetegui for the Spain national team.
Given his wealth of experience, he would be a handy signing for West Ham on a free transfer. Lopetegui will know what Roberto can bring to the side, and he can still get the best out of him.
There is still a lot of football left in Roberto, and a move to the London Stadium cannot be completely ruled out.
