Wolves agree deal for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone

Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to sign a new goalkeeper before the transfer deadline on Friday.

The Old Gold are open to offers for Jose Sa who has conceded eights goals in two Premier League matches this season.

They have been looking to sign Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone, and now Fabrizio Romano is reporting Wolves have agreed a deal to sign the 31-year-old.

It is said the English footballer will undergo his medical tests soon.

Johnstone joined Palace in 2022 from West Bromwich Albion and has gone on to make 34 appearances across all competitions, keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.

However, he wants to leave the South Londoners this summer as manager Oliver Glasner prefers to feature Dean Henderson in goal.

The former Manchester United man has started their opening two games against Brentford and West Ham United.

Gary O’Neil’s side initially wanted to sign Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale who lost his place to David Raya last season.

However, they failed to finalise a move for the England international as the deal proved to be too expensive for them.

Wolves have now switched their attention to Johnstone and are close to securing a deal for him.

The 31-year-old could be a shrewd signing as he boasts plenty of experience, having played for clubs like West Brom, Aston Villa and Palace in his career.

The Midlands outfit have made a dismal start to the new campaign as they have lost both league matches against Arsenal and Chelsea.

They are in action today against Burnley in the EFL Cup and Gary O’Neil will be expecting a reaction from his side at the Molineux Stadium.
