Wolves agree deal to sign Carlos Forbs

Wolverhampton Wanderers are edging closer to securing the loan signing of exciting young winger Carlos Forbs from Dutch giants Ajax, according to The Athletic.

The 20-year-old Portuguese youth international has travelled to England to undergo medicals before a switch to Molineux.

The Premier League club submitted a fresh offer to Ajax on Friday morning. The deal is a season-long loan with an option to buy for €13.5 million (£11.4 million).

Wolves’ transfer business this summer has been heavily restricted by their dilapidating finances. However, personal terms with Forbs are not expected to be a hurdle.

Forbs is a product of Manchester City’s famed academy, where he spent eight years, racking up incredible numbers but didn’t feature for their senior side.

Forbs’ talent is undeniable. He notched 24 goals and 23 assists in just 34 appearances for City’s Under-18 side.

Forbs moved to Ajax in 2023 and has racked up 38 appearances and four goals for the Dutch giants. The Portugal Under-21 level is set to become Wolves’ seventh summer signing.

Manager Gary O’Neil has prioritised adding width to his squad following the departure of Pedro Neto to Chelsea, and Forbs fits the bill perfectly.

Another winger, Burnley’s Luca Koleosho, was also targeted by Wolves. However, the Clarets’ hefty £40 million valuation proved too steep, leading the Midlands club to walk away.

Wolves have been moving swiftly to get a few deals over the line in the final few days of the transfer window following their awful 6-2 loss to Chelsea at the Molineux. They are also close to sealing a deal for Fluminense midfielder Andre.

The Midlands side is anticipating the departure of Joao Gomes for greener pastures and doesn’t want to be short-manned when he eventually leaves.

Andre has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the Brasileiro Serie A since his emergence and joins to prove his mettle in Europe.
