Wolves had late Lauriente bid turned down by Sassuolo

Wolverhampton Wanderers failed to sign a central defender on transfer deadline day.

Their main target Trevor Chalobah ended up joining Crystal Palace while Nayef Aguerd headed to Real Sociedad on loan.

However, Gary O’Neil’s side added an excellent forward in Ajax’s Carlos Forbs on Friday.

The Midlands side had also made a bid worth £12.6 for Armand Laurienté but that was turned down by Sassuolo, per Tuttomercatoweb

Laurienté has been at Sassuolo since 2022 when he joined them from Lorient.

Since his arrival at the Mapei Stadium, he has made 70 appearances across all competitions, with 13 goals and 12 assists to his name.

Last season, the 25-year-old scored five goals in 37 matches in the Italian top-flight but couldn’t save his side from relegation to the Serie B.

Laurienté is young and talented but his goalscoring record is a little underwhelming.

Wolves are unlikely to be worried they have missed out on the Italian winger this summer.

Gary O’Neil’s side have made an excellent acquisition in Carlos Forbs but it may take some time before the youngster is ready to play regularly in the Premier League.

Wolves also secured a transfer for Sam Johnstone from Crystal Palace on deadline day. They initially wanted to sign Aaron Ramsdale but failed to agree terms with Arsenal.

Jose Sa has been their main goalkeeper this season but the Portuguese has conceded eight goals in two league appearances.
