Ange Postecoglou raves about Tottenham talent Archie Gray, could play v Coventry

Tottenham Hotspur manager has been seriously impressed by talented midfielder Archie Gray since he joined the club from Leeds United last summer.

After putting in several impressive shifts for his boyhood club, Spurs paid around £30 million to lure the versatile midfielder to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The move was initially seen as a major coup for Spurs, considering that they were getting one of the finest home-grown prodigies in the country, but Gray has barely kicked a ball so far.

He has racked up just 29 minutes of first-team football for Spurs across the opening two games, but Postecoglou insists the England youth international is in line to get his first start against Coventry City.

Lucas Bergvall, who has also played just 31 minutes of Premier League football, and Spurs academy talent Mikey Moore are also in contention for Wednesday’s game.

“You can see them,” Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference (via Tottenham’s official website).

“Yeah, they might even be on the pitch mate. Yeah, they’re ready to play, and we’re keen to get them some game time.

“That’s why we brought them to the club. They’re training really well, and the games haven’t gone the way we wanted in terms of giving them some more exposure, but we always knew that this is the period where it starts.

“Not just between now and the next international break, but post that, probably until the end of January, we’re going to have a really busy schedule, and they’re going to play a big part in that.”

Tottenham will travel to Coventry Building Society Arena to take on the Championship side, and they’ll be determined to bounce back from consecutive Premier League defeats against Newcastle United and Arsenal.

Postecoglou’s side head to the West Midlands as overwhelming favourites, with the manager hoping to continue his streak of winning silverware in his second season.

The game against Coventry will be a dress rehearsal for another tricky contest against Brentford in another London derby this weekend.
