Basaksehir have tabled an offer for Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier

Turkish Super Lig club Istanbul Basaksehir have stepped in with an offer for Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier, according to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

The Turkish transfer window closes on September 13, and there are other clubs there looking to snap up the 33-year-old Magpies star.

Trippier is frustrated at losing his starting place at Newcastle to Tino Livramento, with the veteran making just one substitute appearance in the opening three Premier League games of 2024-25.

Fenerbahce and Eyupspor have also made enquiries to Newcastle to take Trippier on loan with an option to buy, while Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad tried to sign the former England international before their transfer deadline closed on Monday night.

Basaksehir won the Super Lig in 2019-20 and are looking to assemble a team capable of challenging for it again after finishing fourth last term.

They are prepared to pay a large chunk of his Newcastle wages, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the Turkish top-flight, but it remains to be seen whether the Magpies will be ready to lose such a player after a disappointing summer transfer window.

Trippier wants to focus on club football going forward after announcing his retirement from international football last week, and getting relegated to the Newcastle bench is the last thing he wants.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star has an excellent relationship with Toons manager Eddie Howe, but moving on to where he is guaranteed regular football and also gets a chance to play in the Europa Conference League could be very appealing to him.
