Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah suggested that this could be his last season at the club.
Salah was simply outstanding at Old Trafford as Liverpool earned a 3-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday in the Premier League.
With that victory, Liverpool have now managed three wins in a row in the Premier League, and they have kept clean sheets in all of them.
Salah provided two assists for Luis Diaz and scored another in the second half, and the Reds totally dominated the game against their arch-rivals.
However, it is his post-match comments that have made the headlines. The Egyptian star has a contract at Liverpool until the end of the season, and he has not been offered a new deal at the club.
Salah says that since he has not heard anything about contract renewal, it could be his last season at the club, and that’s why he wants to enjoy every moment.
Daniel Sturridge, while analysing the game on Sky Sports, has said that he doesn’t believe that Salah wants to leave the club in his mind. It could be a ploy to put pressure on Michael Edwards to hand him a new deal.
Sturridge said on Sky Sports (relayed by BBC Sports): “I don’t believe in his mind he wants to leave the club. I think he is saying, ‘show me the money’.”
Salah is arguably the best Liverpool player in the Premier League era, and according to Jamie Carragher, he is the third most important player in the club’s history after Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool are taking a cautious approach over handing contracts to Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold; all of them have one year left on their deals.
Salah has turned 32 in June, and Liverpool could be hesitant to offer him a new deal, no matter how good he is. At the same time, Salah keeps on reminding everyone that he has at least two great years left in him.
He has scored three goals in three games in the Premier League already and probably will try to force Liverpool into offering him a new deal with his performances.
