Danny Murphy delighted with Arsenal signing Raheem Sterling

Aston Villa open talks to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea

Arsenal completed permanent deals for David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori early in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners then signed Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad in a deal worth around £33 million.

The Premier League giants also wanted to add a forward and in a low-risk move, sealed a loan transfer for Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling. It is said they will pay less than half of his salary for the duration of his loan.

Former England international Danny Murphy has praised Arsenal for their “incredible piece of business” on deadline day as he believes Sterling is a great role-model.

He wrote in his column for the Mail On Sunday (September 1, Page 105): “Arsenal signing Raheem Sterling is an incredible piece of business. He’s a winner, a four-time league champion. He isn’t going to be phased by the size of the club and the level of expectancy from the fan base.

“The more players you have in the dressing room that have won trophies, the more it rubs off on those around you. It’s about showing a mentality and calmness in decisive moments and Raheem was a huge part of that at Manchester City.

“So, too, was Mikel Arteta. Raheem knows the high standards that Arteta sets. Likewise, Arteta knows how good a professional Raheem is and what a great role model he is.”

Raheem Sterling began his senior career at Liverpool, where he made 129 appearances in all competitions and scored 23 goals.

The 29-year-old then joined Manchester City in the summer of 2015 for an initial £44 million fee. His stint in Manchester was hugely successful as he won four Premier League titles and five EFL Cup trophies.

Sterling’s goalscoring feats haven’t been as impressive since joining Chelsea but he played an important role for them last season, featuring in 43 appearances across all competitions.

Considering his huge experience at the top level of football and winning mentality, Arsenal have made an excellent acquisition by signing the forward.

The best thing is the Gunners will not have to pay any fee and cover less than half of his wages for the duration of the loan.
