Everton risk further points deduction if they lose legal disputes over including £6.6m interest payment in PSR calculations

Everton are currently involved in another legal dispute with the Premier League over whether £6.6 million in interest payments relating to their new stadium can be taken out of the club’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules calculations, according to The Times.

Last season’s PSR case resulted in Everton being deducted ten points, reduced to six on appeal, and they risk further points deduction if they lose this fresh legal battle.

The Premier League failed in an attempt to make the Toffees pick up its full £4.9m legal costs for last season’s PSR case, with a commission and appeal board instead ruling that the Goodison Park club should only pay £1.7m, with the league covering the other £3.2m.

However, the £4.9m costs do not cover this fresh case nor the further two-point deduction imposed in April.

As a result, Everton will have to pay some millions in legal costs for the new legal dispute and will hope not to lose.

They plan to move to their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock next year ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

The Goodison Park club finished 15th in the English top-flight last term but would have finished 12th had they not suffered the points deduction.

Everton were deducted eight points in total for breaching PSR. The Blues were originally deducted ten points but it was reduced to six after an appeal, and they were then deducted another additional two points for further PSR breaches.

They are currently bottom of the Premier League table in 2024-25 following three defeats in their opening three league games, and the last thing they need this season is another points deduction.

Everton suffered a new low and capitulation at Goodison on Saturday, with Bournemouth coming from behind to score thrice (from the 87th minute) to run out 3-2 winners.
