Glen Hoddle hails ‘fantastic’ Tottenham striker Solanke after performance v Qarabag

Tottenham Hotspur claimed a hard-fought 3-0 win over Qarabag FK in the Europa League, with the frontline delivering another promising performance together. Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke were on the scoresheet again as Spurs claimed victory last night.

Defender Radu Dragusin picked up an early red card after he was pickpocketed while sleeping at the back. The Romanian brought down Juninho as he was bearing down on goal, leaving Spurs short-manned.

However, Tottenham rallied to claim the win. Coach Ange Postecoglou reshuffled the pack, and Tottenham took the lead moments later through Johnson following excellent play by Solanke.

Solanke also helped to put the icing on the cake, pouncing to finish a spilt Son Heung-min shot and ensure all three points for Spurs against the hard-grafting Azerbaijan champions.

Solanke struggled in his first few games following his £65 million move from AFC Bournemouth but has begun to find his groove in north London.

He bagged a goal in the 3-1 over Brentford last weekend and backed it up with another goal and assist last night. Pundit and former Spurs striker Glenn Hoddle has been impressed with the former Chelsea man. “It’s all about the confidence, and Solanke will get better,” Hoddle said (via the BBC).

Postecoglou also praised the Englishman, lauding his performance. “He has been great for us Dom,” Postecoglou said.

“He went through that long drought of two games without a goal! He has been fantastic for us. Not just goals, but his link-up plays. He is a typical striker. He is still working his way back to full fitness.”

Another star who is also playing well after a difficult start is Johnson. The Welshman had struggled in the first few games of the season and deactivated his social media due to abuse he received following his poor outing versus Arsenal.

Johnson has bagged three goals in three consecutive games and is showing the qualities that made the club shell out £40 million to sign him last year.
