Crystal Palace fought back from two goals down to secure a draw against Leicester City in Saturday’s Premier League match at Selhurst Park.
The visitors opened the scoring after 21 minutes when Jamie Vardy rounded the goalkeeper before firing the ball in from a tight angle.
Leicester extended their advantage within the first minute of the second-half as Wilfred Ndidi teed up Stephy Mavididi who scored with a close-range finish.
However, Jean Philippe-Mateta quickly reduced the deficit by slotting home from Tyrick Mitchell’s cross.
The scoreline remained the same until the end of normal time and Crystal Palace appeared to be on the verge of their third league defeat.
However, the hosts were gifted a stoppage-time penalty when Conor Coady brought down Ismaila Sarr inside the box.
Mateta coolly converted his spot-kick as the Eagles managed to rescue a draw at Selhurst Park.
The Frenchman later took to Instagram to post the following message for the supporters: “A good draw at home. Thanks to all the fans for their incredible support!”.
Crystal Palace have endured a difficult start to the 2024-25 campaign so far.
They lost their opening two matches to Brentford and West Ham United before claiming a morale-boosting 4-0 success over Norwich City in the EFL Cup.
Their confidence was evident at Stamford Bridge when they earned a point by holding Chelsea to a 1-1 draw.
Oliver Glasner’s men were not very convincing this weekend but they showed resilience to rescue a point against Leicester.
