Liverpool have made an excellent start to the new Premier League season as they have picked up maximum points from their first three matches.
The Reds’ latest success came at Manchester United, where they absolutely dominated their bitter rivals and came away with a 3-0 victory.
Results have been excellent so far under Arne Slot, despite the fact that they made only a single addition to the squad in the summer transfer window. The Merseyside giants signed Federico Chiesa from Juventus for £10.9 million.
Liverpool also appeared close to securing a deal for Martin Zubimendi but the 25-year-old eventually decided to stay at his boyhood club Real Sociedad.
It now emerges the Reds also looked into a shock deal for Mexico international Cesar Huerta.
However, a move didn’t materialise due to external circumstances, according to the Sunday Mirror (September 8, Page 69).
Huerta has been earning rave reviews with his performances for Liga MX outfit Pumas UNAM.
Last season, he scored 12 goals and contributed nine assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
The 23-year-old has also made a good start this campaign, scoring twice in six Liga MX matches for UNAM.
Huerta had previous stints at Guadalajara, Zacatepec, Morelia, Mazatlan and Tapatio, with 27 career goals to his name so far.
Liverpool could revive their interest in the forward in January as he is young, versatile and could excel in a top league.
