Melissa Reddy shares update on Mohamed Salah’s contract situation as Liverpool star reveals talks have not started

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah told reporters after starring in the 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday that he is in his last year at the Anfield club, and Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has shared what she knows concerning the situation.

The Egypt international was the best player on the pitch yesterday against the Red Devils, weighing in with a goal and two assists, and he has revealed talks over a new deal have not taken place, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

However, Salah’s preference is to remain at Liverpool as he believes he still has a few years at the highest level, according to Liverpool insider Reddy.

Losing such a player, especially for free, will be huge and the Reds are expected to open talks very soon.

Salah will be free to talk with other clubs in January and agree a pre-contract, and Liverpool have to prevent that from happening.

The 32-year-old forward has 214 goals and 90 assists in 352 games for the Reds since joining them from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, and his performance yesterday to take his tally to three goals and three assists in three Premier League games in 2024-25 speaks volumes.

Saudi Pro League clubs were keen on recruiting the services of the Liverpool hero last summer, and while they did not make any serious attempt to sign him last month, his admission yesterday would have come as a big boost for them.

New manager Arne Slot will be desperate to hold on to such a player for as long as he can, and keeping Salah at Anfield beyond next summer could make all the difference for the Dutchman as he looks to win major silverware with the Reds every season.
