National media slams Manchester United’s Matthijs de Ligt after his display vs Germany

Manchester United enjoyed an excellent summer transfer window as they added several top talents to the squad.

The Red Devils signed Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, Sekou Kone, and Noussair Mazraoui.

They also secured a deal for Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, and the defender is expected to be a huge success at Old Trafford.

However, De Ligt endured a disastrous game last night in the Nations League against Germany.

The 25-year-old was at fault for both goals his team conceded as they were forced to settle for a single point from their home encounter.

Ronald Koeman’s side made an impressive start as Ryan Gravenberch set up Tijjani Reijnders for the opener within the opening two minutes.

However, De Ligt misplaced his pass into midfield that led to Deniz Undav scoring the leveller after 38 minutes.

De Telegraaf called the centre-back’s mistake ‘fatal’ and slammed his overall performance at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

The former Bayern Munich star then failed to clear the ball as Germany took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Joshua Kimmich’s header.

Koeman substituted De Ligt at half-time, replacing him with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jan Paul van Hecke.

The Oranje managed to restore parity after five minutes into the second-half, with Brian Brobbey squaring for Denzel Dumfries to score.

Netherlands could have topped their Nations League group with victory on Tuesday, but the draw means they are now second, having equal points with Germany.
