The transfer activity continues at Newcastle United despite the summer window closing on August 30.
They sold Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35 million, while Yankuba Minteh ended up joining Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth around £30m.
However, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie is reporting the Magpies are close to offloading Jamal Lewis as well.
The 26-year-old has arrived in Brazil to complete a loan move to Sao Paulo.
The left-back’s contract expires next summer and so he could have played his last game for the Tyneside club.
Newcastle spent £15 million to sign Jamal Lewis from Norwich City in the summer of 2022.
However, the Northern Ireland international failed to make a big impact at St James’ Park, featuring in just 36 matches in all competitions.
Lewis was sent out on loan to Watford last season, where he played in 36 Championship games. And now he is set to join Sao Paulo to try and revive his career in Brazil.
Newcastle had a largely disappointing summer transfer window as they failed to make a major signing.
The Magpies were locked in a lengthy negotiation process with Crystal Palace over a move for Marc Guehi but ultimately failed to finalise a deal for the England international.
The Premier League side also made a deadline-day approach for Anthony Elanga but Nottingham Forest turned down their offer.
But despite the underwhelming summer transfer window, Eddie Howe’s side have made a positive start to the new campaign, picking up seven points from their first three matches.
