Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was the best player on the pitch in the 3-0 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, with the Egypt international forward grabbing two assists and a goal to ensure Arne Slot continued his start to life as Reds manager on an impressive note.
The Anfield club headed into the game against the Red Devils with two victories out of their two opening Premier League games of 2024-25, and Liverpool are now the only team yet to concede a goal after winning all their games so far.
Salah was at his brilliant best today, with three goals and three assists now under his belt this term, and Roy Keane was impressed with his performance.
“He was brilliant,” Keane said on Sky Sports.
“Talk about world-class performance. He’s a great example. I really enjoy watching him. Obviously it’s hard to take for Man Utd today but you’ve got to give credit where it’s due.
“He’s in control of that (his contract). I know clubs have policies about letting players’ contracts run down when they get to 31, 32, but he’ll decide what he wants to do. They’ll obviously have to offer him a contract – he’s their main player. But put it this way: he will have plenty of options.”
Liverpool have been trying to convince Salah to sign a new deal, but he is now in the final 12 months of his contract and leaving as a free agent at the end of the season cannot be ruled out for the 32-year-old.
The right winger has 214 goals and 90 assists in 352 games for the Reds since joining them from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, and keeping him for as long as they can should be their top plan going forward.
Salah, a three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, proved against Man United exactly why Liverpool cannot afford to let him go anytime soon, and he will be keen to keep impressing going forward.
