Portugal secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Scotland in the Nations League on Sunday.
Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay provided an early breakthrough for his country with a superb header.
The Tartan Army’s lead lasted until half-time, but Bruno Fernandes restored parity with an impressive long-range effort on 54 minutes.
Roberto Martínez’s side eventually claimed a dramatic win after Cristiano Ronaldo scored with two minutes remaining of normal time.
McTominay was effusive in his praise for his former teammate after the Nations League game at the The Estádio da Luz.
The 27-year-old said (per TVI): “I played with Bruno for many years and he is an incredible player and person. He helped me a lot in my career.
“I am very grateful to him. I wish him every success.”
Bruno Fernandes has started all three Premier League matches for Manchester United this season but he is yet to score a goal or register an assist.
However, the 30-year-old was excellent on Sunday as he scored to initiate Portugal’s comeback against Scotland.
He had 99 touches in the game and completed 56 of his 64 passes.
The experienced midfielder created two big chances, made six key passes and had two shots on target.
He also completed 100 percent of his long balls and won 100 percent of his tackles.
Fernandes’ latest display is good news for United supporters who will hope that he can carry his form into the Premier League.
The Red Devils will return to action this weekend when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.
Erik ten Hag’s side have picked up just three points this season after losing to Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool.
