Simon Jordan shares damning verdict on ‘big-money’ Manchester United player

Former owner of Crystal Palace Simon Jordan has delivered a damning verdict on Manchester United player Antony.

The Brazilian joined the Red Devils in a huge £82 million deal from Ajax in 2022.

However, he has completely failed to justify his enormous price-tag. In 82 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 11 goals and created five assists.

This season, the 24-year-old has been limited to only a single substitute appearance, with manager Erik ten Hag preferring Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho on the wings.

Simon Jordan isn’t at all pleased with Antony and called the Brazil international’s signing a ‘waste of money’.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, he said: “Of course, there is an expectation, because naturally if you spend big money on players then you expect big outcomes and you have got less reason.

“If a £25 million footballer doesn’t succeed, there is less noise around it. There is less expectation because he is only £25 million. In this instance, Antony at £25 million would be a bad buy because he has been poor and everything about him has been poor.

“What has he brought towards Manchester United besides lurid headlines. There is certainly nothing on the football field. And so, I mean at £25 million, you will be saying that’s a waste of money. Yeah, £85 million you have to look at the manager and say well, you bought him because you knew him”.

Manchester United returned to winning ways on Saturday as they beat Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s Stadium.

The Red Devils were low on confidence before the away game, having lost back-to-back fixtures to Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side produced an excellent performance and picked up full points from the league encounter.

Andre Onana saved Cameron Archer’s penalty before summer signing Matthijs de Ligt scored the opening goal on 35 minutes.

Rashford doubled their lead six minutes later by guiding a low strike through a crowd into the net.

There was no comeback from the Saints in the second-half and Garnacho wrapped up the win with a thumping finish in stoppage-time.

Erik ten Hag’s side are now set to face Barnsley in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
