Sky Sports pundit: Brennan Johnson goal a huge confidence booster

Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways with a terrific 3-1 victory over London rivals Brentford this weekend, thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, and James Maddison.

The Bees had opened the scoring in the first minute through Bryan Mbeumo, and it looked like it was going to be another sad day for Spurs faithful, but Solanke pulled them back level seven minutes later.

This was his first goal in a Tottenham shirt, and it will give him some reprieve after struggling in his first few games in white.

Johnson made it 2-1 with a fantastic finish from a tight angle, bagging his second in as many games. After scoring the winner against Coventry City in mid-week, he was the hero again.

His brilliant finish earned him praise from former Tottenham defender turned Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson.

It’s a fantastic finish from a tight angle, the pundit exclaimed (via Sky Sports), giving Johnson props for a well-taken finish. “He got the goal in mid-week and this will do him a huge confidence favour.”

After receiving backlash for his awful showing against Arsenal and deactivating his Instagram social media account because of abuse, he has hit his stride.

Johnson is more determined to prove the doubters wrong. He has locked in and looks desperate to show he can thrive in north London following his big-money move from Nottingham Forest.

Maddison will also be delighted to have gotten on the scoresheet. The playmaker hasn’t made the blistering start he enjoyed last season but continues to produce the goods in the final third.

Tottenham’s win over Brentford sees them move to tenth for now before welcoming Azerbaijan champions Qarabag FK for their Europa League clash in the middle of the week.

Next in the Premier League, Spurs take a trip to Old Trafford in search of another crucial three points. They will hope this morale-boosting victory will give them the impetus when they face the Red Devils.
