Steve Rotheram has welcomed the move after Everton reached an agreement with the Friedkin Group to be taken over.
The Toffees have seen several failed takeovers in recent years, and the situation looked really bleak when Dan Friedkin decided to walk away in August.
Crystal Palace owner John Textor also showed a concrete interest in buying the Merseyside club, but there was no exclusivity period given to him.
The Friedkin Group returned to the discussion this month, and they have now reached an agreement with Farhad Moshiri.
According to BBC journalist Giulia Bould, almost 99% of the work has been done, and only the Premier League approval is left for the takeover to be completed.
Rotherham took to X on Tuesday (24 September) to share his reaction. The Liverpool Mayor has welcomed the move, saying Everton are a “crown jewel” and they deserve to be operated under committed stewardship.
He wrote: “As founding members of the Football League and one of the country’s most successful teams, Everton are a crown jewel deserving of careful and committed stewardship.
“This is great news for the club, fans and our wider region. Hopefully now it can begin to turn the page and move forward.”
Everton can look for bright future ahead
One of the reasons why the Friedkin left the table was that they didn’t want to get involved in the complex legal scenario of £200 million in loans supplied by 777 Partners.
However, once that was sorted out, there remained no problems for them to join the race. The due diligence was already done when they had the exclusivity period back in June.

With the new stadium at the Bramley Moor Dock on the horizon, Everton fans can expect the club to move forward in a fresh direction.
The club will be debt-free, and the owners will gradually look to improve the squad. In the meantime, before they receive the green light from the Premier League, they will continue to provide money for the smooth running of the club.
