West Ham fans gave Crysensio Summerville standing ovation

West Ham produced an insipid performance in front of home fans as they lost 3-0 against Chelsea at the London Stadium on Saturday (21 September) in the Premier League.

With that result, the Hammers have picked up just one win in their opening five games, and truly, Julen Lopetegui is under a lot of pressure. The honeymoon period is over for him.

BBC Radio commentator John Southall shared that when Crysencio Summerville was taken off in the 54th minute, the Hammers fans gave him a standing ovation as he was the only bright spark for the team in this game.

West Ham fans, however, didn’t like the decision. When Michail Antonio was about to come on, the home fans welcomed him with loud boos.

Southall noted, as quoted by BBC Sport Live blog: “The home fans are booing as Michail Antonio is coming on. Cryscencio Summerville gets a standing ovation, he’s been one of the only bright sparks.”

At the final whistle, there were not many West Ham fans in the stadium as they left the ground early, but boos were ringing loudly. Clearly, the fans want to see more fighting spirit from the team.

Nicolas Jackson scored twice, while Cole Palmer added another for the Blues as Chelsea picked up a comfortable win.

This was West Ham’s second defeat in the last three games, but more than the result, it was the manner of the defeat that should infuriate the fans.

Marc Albrighton said on BBC Radio that he hadn’t seen a team recently getting ripped apart like this. There was hardly any cohesion and communication among the players, and they couldn’t put up a fight in a derby.

West Ham signed a lot of players in the summer transfer window, and Lopetegui needs to integrate them properly into the first team. The fans just couldn’t believe what they saw today as they shook their heads.
