Aston Villa continued their impressive start to 2024-25 with a 3-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, with the visitors coming behind from a goal down to secure all three points after another solid performance.
Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans was one of the best players on the pitch, with his assist putting Villa 2-1 up, and Alan Shearer has admitted that he has been impressed with the displays of the 27-year-old so far this term.
Tielemans has weighed in with three assists in eight Premier League games, and he also has a goal and an assist in two Champions League appearances.
The Villa star ended last term with two goals and six assists in 32 league games, and he has simply continued from where he stopped.
Shearer included Tielemans in his Team of the Week following his outstanding game against Fulham, detailing why on the official Premier League website.
“Is really blossoming this season at Aston Villa, with his range of passing really catching the eye,” Shearer said.
Villa finished fourth in the Premier League last term and are currently fourth following five wins, two draws and a loss, with just four points between them and league leaders Liverpool.
Manager Unai Emery has the likes of Tielemans to thank for their solid start to the new campaign, and while not many are expecting them to challenge for the title, it cannot be ruled out if they can maintain and sustain their current momentum.
They host Bologna tonight in their third Champions League game of the season before hosting Bournemouth on Saturday, and the former Leicester City star will be keen to impress in both games.
Villa face Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup afterwards before facing Tottenham Hotspur, Club Bruges and Liverpool ahead of the November international break, and how they fare in those league fixtures will have a huge say on their campaign.
