Alan Shearer names Tottenham star Brennan Johnson in Premier League TOTW

Alan Shearer has named Tottenham Hotspur star Brennan Johnson in his Premier League Team of the Week after his sublime performance in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Welsh international opened the scoring just three minutes into the game, latching on to a low cross from Micky van de Ven at the far post.

Johnson could have bagged a first-half brace at Old Trafford but was denied by the woodwork.

His tap-in proved to be the difference between both sides in the opening 45 minutes, although he was also involved in the second goal as his deflected cross fell kindly for Dejan Kulusevski to poke home.

Johnson had 42 touches during the game and also recorded a key pass.

Shearer was seriously impressed by the performance of the former Brentford talent, and it was enough to name the ‘undroppable’ star on his team of the week.

In his Premier League column, Shearer wrote: “A goal and an assist to continue his fine run of form for Spurs. He’s undroppable in this form.”

Johnson’s third-minute strike at Old Trafford extends his recent goalscoring streak, as the Welshman has now scored in four consecutive games across all competitions.

Unless he’s handed a breather in midweek, the former Brentford star will be looking to extend his goalscoring run further when Spurs take on Ferencvaros in the Europa League on Thursday.

Spurs must keep their foot on the gas to preserve recent form

Tottenham have turned a corner since suffering back-to-back Premier League defeats against Newcastle United and Arsenal, winning four games on the bounce in all competitions.

With yet another international break on the horizon, Ange Postecoglou’s side cannot afford to take their foot off the gas over the next two games.

Spurs are gearing up for a continental clash against Hungarian side Ferencvaros, and a win would be the perfect backdrop for next weekend’s tricky trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Heading into October’s international break with a win against Brighton will be massive for the dressing room confidence and their prospects of making top four this season.
