Arsenal came from behind to secure all three points against Southampton in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Despite going a goal down in the second half, the Gunners’ inspired attacking performances saw them beat the Saints 3-1, with goals coming from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka.
Alan Shearer has showered praise for Havertz, saying he was “incredible”, while speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.
The popular football pundit says that he has been really impressed by Havertz’s overall involvement. The German forward has been in outstanding form for Arsenal and has scored in seven consecutive home games, a feat previously achieved by Robin van Persie in 2012.
What Alan Shearer said about Arsenal forward Kai Havertz
Shearer previously claimed that Havertz is thriving in the number nine role for the Gunners. The 25-year-old scored 13 goals last season in the Premier League and provided seven assists.
This season, he has started the 2024-25 campaign strongly, scoring four goals and providing an assist in the Premier League.
Shearer said: “I think he is really impressing me in terms of his performances overall. Incredible.
“He’s been a real centre-forward, not just his goals, but his hold up play, what he is doing for the team, bringing players into the game, challenging for balls in the air when he knows he perhaps might not win them. I’ve been really really impressed with him.”
Kai Havertz enjoying his best form in the Premier League
The German forward struggled badly for Chelsea, and he was seen as a major flop at the club. He was initially seen as a waste of money when Arsenal signed him for £65 million.
After he managed just one goal in his first 19 games, such reactions became louder. But what a turnaround it has been, and he is one of the key players for the Gunners now.
Mikel Arteta has found the perfect system for him to thrive, and he is now enjoying his game. He made 27 accurate passes in the last game, which is around 84% against the Saints.
The attacker has pulled out of international duty against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Holland due to a knee issue. but Arsenal are confident that he won’t be out for a long time.
