Arne Slot confirms 26-year-old Liverpool player will definitely miss CL clash v Bologna

Liverpool will take on Serie A side Bologna in the Champions League on Wednesday night (2 October) at Anfield.

Ahead of the match, Arne Slot has confirmed in the press conference that Federico Chiesa will miss the clash against Bologna.

The Reds boss has suggested that Chiesa trained with the squad on Monday. But he has felt some problems in training today, and therefore the club will not take any risk with him for the upcoming fixture.

It is highly likely that he could return at the weekend in the Premier League away to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Slot said, as quoted by Liverpool Echo: “Federico trained with us yesterday. Came today with some problems so not expecting him to be with us. It’s a shame for him. Not expecting him to be out for very long.”

Liverpool should be looking to make it two wins in a row in the Champions League

The Reds are flying high at the moment. They have moved to the top of the Premier League last weekend after they won 2-1 against Wolves at Molineux.

The focus now shifts back to the Champions League, but Liverpool should feel confident of picking up full points at Anfield, although Bologna are a strong team.

Slot has also confirmed that Diogo Jota took a knock during the game against Wolves, and he missed two sessions. However, he is now fully fit and should be able to take part in the Champions League.

The Reds boss could look to rotate the squad and bring Darwin Nunez upfront. Cody Gakpo is another option for the Dutchman if he decides to shuffle his pack for this game.

Chiesa started in the 5-1 victory against West Ham and grabbed an assist for the club. He has struggled with injuries in recent years, but it looks like it is just a minor knock, and he should be able to return this weekend.
