Arne Slot hints Liverpool could bring back Ben Doak

Liverpool will face Brighton in the EFL Cup away from home on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the match, the Reds boss, Arne Slot, has suggested that he is concerned with the injury problems and has hinted that the club could decide to recall one or two players from their loan spells.

Liverpool sent Ben Doak on loan to Middlesbrough this summer, and he has been outstanding for the Championship club.

Slot has explained that the club’s youngsters need to play elsewhere to get regular games, and the loan spells are good for their development.

However, given that Liverpool have a busy schedule and games are coming thick and fast, Slot fears that injuries are a worry for him. He adds that the club could recall Doak back.

Slot said: “For Ben Doak, it’s similar. He also went to a very good manager and they have a very good playing style. It’s a balance we need to find: do we want to play them on a regular basis or once in a while and keep them with us where we have to be aware of our own interests?

“Like you see now, we’ve got six forwards, two of them are injured, so only four left. With the schedule we have, that’s sometimes a bit of a worry for me. Maybe we should bring Ben Doak back!”

Ben Doak has really impressed under Michael Carrick

Doak was taken off around the hour mark when Boro was leading 3-1 against Norwich City, and Michael Carrick has reminded everyone that the club need to be patient with him.

Carrick said: “Ben is dangerous, we know that, we know what he’s capable of. He’s still young and we still have to be patient with him and help him develop.”

The Liverpool loanee has quickly established himself as a key figure on Carrick’s side and has started in the last six Championship games.

The young forward has made a bright impression, and Slot could consider bringing him back.

Liverpool are currently without Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott, and Federico Chiesa, and they are short of options in the attacking areas.

However, Doak will hardly get games when all the injured players are back, which will not be long, and it might hamper his growth.

The Reds must allow him to continue playing for Boro for the entire season.

In other Liverpool news, Arne Slot has confirmed that rarely seen player will get chance to start v Brighton.
