Arteta uncertain over Saka, Calafiori, Timber fitness: Predicted Arsenal XI v Liverpool

Arsenal lock horns with Liverpool at the Emirates this Sunday, looking to bounce back from their first loss this season at AFC Bournemouth last weekend.

The Gunners failed to deliver a rousing response in the Champions League, where they managed a 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

However, a win over the table-topping Merseysiders could put the north Londoners back in the conversation for the Premier League title.

Arsenal have claimed two wins over Liverpool in their last five league meetings (D2, L1) and will back themselves to get a result against Arne Slot’s men.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta provided an injury update on key players before the crucial clash.

Arteta confirmed that Bukayo Saka has resumed partial training, but his availability for Sunday’s game is still questionable.

Saka was meant to be fit for the Bournemouth game but continues to be sidelined by the knock he sustained during the October international break.

Riccardo Calafiori’s situation is more complex, with further tests needed to assess the extent of his injury. Jurrien Timber, who has been out for a while, has started light training, but his readiness remains uncertain.

We’re going to do our very best to somehow have them available, but it’s very uncertain,Arteta said (via Arsenal.com).

With William Saliba suspended, Arteta acknowledged the need for a different approach to the defence. He hinted at the possibility of using players with experience in that position, which could mean a start for Ben White as a partner to Gabriel Magalhaes in central defence.

The manager expressed excitement about the upcoming match, highlighting the importance of playing with dominance and belief. He also praised Liverpool’s quality and experience, recognising their ability to threaten from various positions.

Regarding the potential involvement of young players like Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, Arteta confirmed their readiness and ability to contribute to the first team.

Fans have been eager to see the pair get more playing time but remain frustrated that the Spaniard continues to utilise his trusted generals.

Predicted Arsenal Starting XI v Liverpool

(4-3-3): David Raya; Jakub Kiwior, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White, Thomas Partey; Declan Rice, Jorginho, Mikel Merino; Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka.
