Former Crystal Palace midfielder Andros Townsend has hailed Liverpool and Arne Slot for picking up where they left off under former manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds have made an excellent start to the season, winning seven of their Premier League games and boasting a 100% record in their Champions League campaign.
Slot’s tactical brilliance has been key to Liverpool’s impressive form, with the Reds boasting the best defensive record in the division, having conceded just three goals.
They’ve also been one of the most prolific sides in the Premier League, with only Manchester City (19), Tottenham Hotspur (18), and Chelsea (17) scoring more goals than the Reds (15).
Slot’s tactical brilliance was on show in Sunday’s impressive 2-1 win over Chelsea. Liverpool weren’t at their best, but their organisation and adaptation stifled Chelsea’s attack and was key to securing the win.
Liverpool’s transition into the new era has left Townsend seriously impressed, and he has highlighted one key change the Reds have made to maintain their dominance this season.
“They look like they are a lot calmer,” Townsend said on BBC Radio.
“They aren’t just gung-ho when they lose it and press all-out attack to win it back. They seem to have a more calm approach.
“It seems to be very different to the way [Jurgen] Klopp shaped his Liverpool side over this last four or five years.
“It’s a major change, but the players seem to be adapting well to it, they seem to be taking to it, and results haven’t dropped off, which is probably a surprise to everyone.
“When you have a successful manager like Klopp walk away, you normally expect a dip in standards and form, but that hasn’t happened so far.”
Having extended their Premier League winning streak to four games on the spin, Liverpool turn their attention to Wednesday’s Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.
They’ll visit the Bundesliga side at the Red Bull Arena looking to maintain their perfect start and solidify their spot in the top eight.
