Brilliant footage of fan reception emerges as Ruben Amorim edges closer to joining Manchester United

Manchester United finally decided to dismiss Erik ten Hag as manager on Monday after the Dutchman led them to a terrible 2024-25 start.

The Red Devils are now looking to appoint Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim as a replacement at Old Trafford.

The 39-year-old is interested to succeed Ten Hag and they are now locked in negotiations with the Primeira Liga club.

United are ready to pay Amorim’s £8.3 million release clause and a move is expected to materialise soon.

The Portuguese boss was in the dugout at the Estádio José Alvalade on Tuesday night as Sporting beat Nacional 3-1 to make it to the semi-final of the League Cup.

Despite his decision to join Manchester United, the home supporters stood up to clap him as normal which shows their massive respect for him.

Amorim is currently one of the most sought-after coaches in world football

The 39-year-old has completely changed the fortunes of Sporting within a few years.

He ended the domestic dominance of Benfica and Porto by leading the Lions to their first Primeira Liga title in 19 years in 2021.

The Portuguese boss followed that up with another league title last season.

Sporting are currently sitting at the top of the league standings with three points ahead of Porto.

Not all United supporters were happy with the sacking of Erik ten Hag, but they will now be satisfied that Amorim is close to becoming their new head coach.
